CHILD SAFETY POLICY
Ashbourne Wheelers Cycle Club (AWCC) is delighted to include the youth of Ashbourne, and surrounding areas, in our cycle club.
AWCC is committed to safeguarding the well-being of its youth members.
All youth members of the club are treated, at all times, with respect and dignity, with special attention given to the safety and welfare of underage members.
The policy outlined below has been agreed by the club committee and is reviewed on an annual basis.

The key policies of the club include:

To ensure, as much as possible, the protection of our youth members, in regards to adhering to rules of the road, i.e. stopping at lights, using the correct hand signals.

To ensure, as much as possible, the protection of our youth members, in regards to wearing appropriate protection equipment, i.e. helmets, lights, and that there bikes presents as appropriate for road usage.

To ensure, as much as possible, the protection of our youth members, in line with Child protection policies.

The club strives to create a safe, caring and fun environment for youth to participate in.

A child is defined as a person under 18 years of age.

Under 18’s are welcome to cycle in club spins. An adult (parent or guardian) is required to be present while the youth in cycling with the club.

The captain of the spin will be made aware of the participation of a youth member and chat with them prior to leaving, about the route and the youths ability.
Our current CSO (Child Safeguarding Officer) is Kevin Halpin, who will ensure that the above policy is applied by the club. Kevin is a social care worker for TUSLA, the child and family agency, and has also completed children 1st training and child safe guarding level 1. Kevin is also a certificated first aid responder.
